About Brenda
It was the summer of 1983 when I received my cosmetology license from La James in Fort Dodge. After the birth of my twin daughters in 1985 I remodeled the front porch of our family home in Guthrie Center and opened “A Cut Above” I had the salon in my home until my girls went to kindergarten in 1990. At that time I bought a building in downtown Guthrie Center. I moved my salon and added a Christian bookstore.
My first husband past away the summer of 1991 and within two years, I closed the business. I had been in “cosmetology retirement” since 1993, only doing family and a few close friends.
In 2004 Michael and I moved to St Ansgar, and I started my dream job as a travel director for a company in West Des Moines. From February thru May,( and a few other days here and there) I travel all over the country and a few international locations as well, working on corporate meetings and incentive travel. I love my work as a travel director. The work is challenging and the view, on occasion, is spectacular. The only draw back to my travel job is that it is part time per assignment. That means I travel 5 – 15 days during the months of Februady thru May Then from July thru January, I’m primarilay home.
After realizing that St. Ansgar has only a few Salons, and I needed income for the down months of travel, Michael and I decided that the perfect part time job for me would be to open a salon on our front porch.
To that end, Michael got busy with the remodeling and I finished up several hours of continuing education, and opened the Front Porch Salon.
Michael and I have been married since 1998 and have 5 children between us. I have twins, and my husband has two children and we have our "Latvian Daughter" who has been a part of our family since 1999.
We currently have 7 grandchildren!
